X-Files: You're Always on my Mind

I LOVE X-files. The funny thing is, I did not realize how much I DO and forever will love this series. It was just always on my mind. The show would come up in conversation. I collected the seasons over time (and the movies) and watch them steadily. It was I think maybe when the 20th anniversary of the show came up that I realized I have never stopped watching or talking about it!

X-Files was the 90's. Nine seasons! I started watching X-Files when I was nearing the end of my pregnancy with my son. (September 10th 1993, Dylan was born beginning of October) X-files was one of those show that could have gone the way of so many breakthrough, non-conformist series but it had a few things on its side which I feel made it a staple in television at that time, and not just having the brilliant Chris Carter create this show from a combination of ideas. From MY point of view the 90's were the conspiracy era of my generation. Aliens and government cover ups were all the rage! The Internet was becoming a very big thing. People could now share their theories MORE then ever before and with other like minded individuals from around the world! Plus X-files had a spooky side, touching on the paranormal supernatural (I always blame the fact I was born on Halloween for being attracted to the abnormal). It played on ours fears of the unknown and what hides in sewers. Brilliant story telling which in some cases had elements of truth or urban legends plus characters that where interesting people and I wanted to know more about them.

But let me just say, spooky stuff, aliens and government conspiracies aside, the biggest reason the X-Files will be my forever show is obviously Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson ). Their relationship is like no other. The fact we see them falling in love without sexualizing their relationship had made it more endearing and everlasting in my mind. There were so many reason they came to be, and because David and Gillian are such brilliant actors they were able to convey that love in so many ways. ( I believe the on screen chemistry has a lot to do with them being friends as well). Even something as simple as how Scully would place her hand on Mulder's arm or the way Mulder would hand Scully a new case file and his gaze would linger....*sigh* just writing this makes me smile! Can you tell they are my favourite fictional TV couple??

Oh my gosh this show makes me so happy and disturbed at the same time! I am ecstatic about season 10, yes that's right, season 10!!! I also want to thank Chris Carter for David and Gillian. As I have said they are both brilliant actors and I have enjoyed other works they have done. Okay maybe a little more Gillian because she is AMAZING, beautiful and wow can she get to the heart of the characters plays! I was worried about David for a time but he came back better than ever!

I am SO EXCITED about the reboot! Even through I have revisited the series over time, now that my kids are older (after all one is the same age as the series) I feel it is time I explore the X-Files as I have never done before. So this week, Season One.  We begin again.

The truth is out there.... coming 2016

I AM GROOT - Mask

About 2 years ago we started dabbling in costume fabrication. One of the biggest successes of that was the Groot mask (Guardians of the Galaxy) which we took with us to Fan Expo 2014. We got some really great feedback and quite a few complements, people asking where we bought it. The look of 'AWESOME' on their faces was, well, AWESOME!

We had little intentions of keeping Groot so our friends at Comic Alley Toys, located in downtown Oshawa put it up for sale for us.

I am happy to report that Groot found a home at Anime North 2015 . Thank you Comic Alley Toys for the support!  Dylan has been fabricating an Iron Man helmet, Ultron and most recently, he is working on another Groot mask!

Pretty cool how much this mask will change to the one above! Items will be sold through Comic Alley Toys . Ever in Oshawa you gotta check this shop out! Feature coming soon.......

Road-Tripping Claremont Shoe Tree

Last year we went road tripping around the back roads of south eastern Ontario. At the that time we ended up driving through Claremont, a little town in the northern part of Pickering where I saw this amazing huge old tree with shoes nailed to it from as high as people to get to down to the ground all around the base of the trunk. Unfortunately I did not notice it until we drove past it, and could not turn around. At the time I wasn't even sure where we had traveled too.

When we go out road tripping we we just randomly pick roads by left, right, or heck lets just go straight and see where this takes us! When I had mentioned this to a couple of people they had heard of the "shoe tree" too but could not remember where they had seen it and why this awesome phenomenon had started.

So this year on our fisrt outing of the season we decided to try and it found it with camera ready. Amazingly we picked the right roads and found it with 45 minutes! Unfortuntaly the Shoe Tree was no longer massive amd majestic. Whether through age and or weater the top part of the Shoe  was no more. But that had not stopped people from adding they shoes and paying homeage to the "shoe tree".

Pictures below:

So legend goes that "In Wallaceburg, there was a legend among the natives of Walpole Island of the magic Shoe Tree. It was rumoured that if you hung a pair of moccasins on a sacred tree, it brought you good luck. Bill Boland was intimately familiar with this ancient native tradition and immediately started his own Shoe tree in his adopted area." And if you nail your shoes on the sacred tree, others will follow. Bill’s Shoe Tree become a local landmark. This was the very first Shoe Tree. Others started spouting up not long after.

I hope you are lucky enough to come across one of these Shoe Trees in your travels. They are quite the sight! And to me the trees are telling you are story of all the different kinds of people who believe magic and good wishes can hopefully bring wonder things into your life.

Good travels and adventures!
