Xbox One...More like Xbox No Fun

Now a few days ago, in a place far from here, Microsoft unveiled it's new flagship console, the Xbox One.
The Xbox One

Now lets start off with this: most people own a "Xbox One". It was the first console, why for no reason did they have to pull that name out of there collective rear ends? Instead of 720 (a more forward thinking name) they literally went backwards.
The REAL Xbox  One, and remote

This whole backwards thinking theme continues with it's design...It looks like my stereo, WAS THAT INTENTIONAL!? Or are they trying to make Xbox One look better than Sony's consoles. And the remote...In an industry where you HAVE to go further, Microsoft just moved the Dashboard button up. Way to be forward thinking.
What's so innovative about moving the Dashboard Button up?

Now lets get to the big issues: Microsoft's "Used Game Policy". It's a sham. You go out looking for a deal, and you find it. You come home, insert the disc, and then, you are told you have to pay a fee. Now didn't you just pay a fee when you bought the game? Apparently it isn't enough that you just spent your hard earned money, Microsoft wants more, The reason why: Because all games that are put in the tray, are installed directly to the hard drive of the Xbox, apparently eliminating the need for discs. Which would be fine, However Microsoft has maybe jumped the gun a little, I can see how this might be exploited by just installing the game and passing the disc off to somebody else, but that is an entirely different issue. Firstly, when selling a game to say, Game Stop, the sold game is scanned and through some sorcery a message is sent to Xbox saying "This game has officially been taken out of the owner hands and put back on the open market" or something like that (whether or not the game has to be deleted from the hard drive for this to work, I can't say), and once bought, according to a recent posting by Forbes, you are required to pay a fee ranging from $10 to the actual price of the game (essentially buying it twice). Also according to Forbes, Mircosoft is said to release more their "Used Game Policy", hinting that in some way, the definition of a "used game" has changed, and they will be announcing said definition in the future. And as for their shared gaming and swapping games with friends, Mircosoft is being extremely tight lipped so we might have to wait a bit.

Another rumor is that the Xbox One needs to always be connected to the Internet. That is a little complicated, You would still be able to play games without one, but the Xbox needs to connect to the Internet at least once a day, I'm assuming for updates. However it's not clear what happens during these connections, and a small break in the daily connection won't impact the players gaming experience too  much, but it's hinted that a longer break in the updates might be problematic. As for the rumor that with no internet you can't play, It's false. As stated above, it might get to point of being an issue, but you should still be able to play.

And the final "Bad Thing" I've heard about is that the Kinect Sensor, from what I understand (so not very official), is going to be "watching" you, monitoring you, your gaming and T.V. habits. Now this isn't a problem...until you realize what this could mean, the Kinect has this whole "Big Brother" effect now, it watches you, makes suggestions and according to some sources, will be monitoring the amount of people in you house to see if you're exceeding the amount of people legally entitled to view their content (yes people that is an actual criminal offense) and in that case Xbox will send the user a message requiring the owner to purchase a license for "public viewing" now the specifics of this is unclear, as if whether or not this is true or not, and if the license message will be sent for more than one violation (which would put a damper on parties). But I personally never did like the Kinect, and these rumors are not helping with my ill feelings for it, and until they're quashed, I recommend you say away from Kinect before it goes all "Skynet" (Terminator reference) on you.
Could this be the face of Skynet?

That's not to say the Xbox isn't a good system, and that all these bad things are gonna sink the Xbox One. So stay tuned for another posting I'll be making on the Pros of the Xbox One.

Borderlands 2 *KRIEG THE PSYCHO* Dylan's Reveiw

Ever want a game where you can just...Go Nuts? Like hack and slash through enemies in a fit of FRENZY????

Well that game doesn't quite exist yet, But 2K got it pretty damn close in Borderlands 2 with it's latest DLC
Krieg the Psycho!!!!!!

First impressions from E3 were....AWESOME!!! I literally squealed with excitement. A split-personality BUZZ AXE wielding psychopath...That's playable!!!!! Naturally I waited patiently, and searched the Internet for clues.

KRIEG THE PSYCHO
What's out there is this: Krieg escaped a Hyperion Lab, (the BAD GUYS!!!!!!) and has a very Ghost Rider approach to the world; protecting the weak and innocent and hunting the evil. He also has an...Axe to Grind with Handsome Jack (main antagonist) for his role in the experiments that may or may not have made Krieg who he is today.

Now that he's out, I've had a chance to play him and I must say...It's a mixed bag for me. For all the things that are awesome, there is a few low points.

He has total ground control with very little enemies who can, without a doubt beat him. Now I am currently heavily invested in his "Mania" Skill Tree, which is all about melee. Now this isn't really an issue until you start having to deal with large groups, fast moving, or airborne enemies. Bosses don't stand a chance, as Krieg's "Buzz Axe Rampage" shreds any ground base forces and gives him his health back, and his "Light the Fuse" which is a spin on "Down but not Out" phase (except with high explosives) is pretty awesome! But I stress this, He can't handle large groups. Sure he is good at taking them out with the above skills but time and health are a HUGE factor. And as said above He can't fight air worth a damn.

Krieg Skill Trees
Now I fully intend to go into both his "Hellborn" and "Bloodlust" Skill Trees, but for now, it's a ground game for me. Hulking out on Bandits and Robots alike is the most fun I've had in a while in BL2. And I hope that progress in the other Skill Trees will help him be a more effective fighter...

But for now Krieg, stick to beating up the mooks, cause anything higher is too hot to handle

"STAY TUNED FOR AN UPDATED VERSION AS I PROGRESS WITH THIS CHARACTER"

Dylan's Top 5 Games

Ah yes, the egocentric, Top Five. I personally enjoyed all these titles, start to finish. Now they might not be the best games ever made, some might be downright terrible. But they had the power to make me love them regardless! They range from RPG's to RTS's...anyways, here they are...MY TOP FIVE GAMES (Until I lose interest in them and edit this list!)

NUMBER 5

Supreme Commander 2
A Real Time Strategy Game, that puts players in the boots of three commanders. Starting with UEF a more infantry based army, going to Illuminate which relies on specialty units and taking control of other players units, and Cybran (my personal favorite) which goes for more of a "Zerg Rush" aggro style.  It's a very interesting way of story telling, going from faction to faction, with each starting mission setting the stage for the intersecting story points. As for back story, well you kinda get most of it during the game. However seeing as how this game has almost nothing to do with the first game (the story is based around some giant hyper advanced teraformer) you don't need to worry about jumping in on a sequel. I love RTSs and Supreme Commander is one of my favorites. And will always have a special place on my shelf.

Red Dead Redemption
Now I could go on for ever about how this game has amazing graphics, awesome story telling, and how it accurately depicts the Old West...BUT LET'S THROW THAT OUT A WINDOW! I LOVED this game!! Not for the sole reason that you are literally A GUN TOTING BAD-ASS IN THE MID-WEST. I mean, I spent  possibly 50 hours on the starting area, just BEING A COWBOY. How could you resist the urge to rob banks, tie people to train tracks, and just...BE A COWBOY! I fought law-men for hours on end before I was killed...It was amazing! And you what, it still is. Thanks Rockstar (for the actual game...not the cougars. Seriously their like stealth jets, they just KILL you)

Borderlands
Bandits. Blood. AND LOADS OF LOOT!
This game is like someone took The Legend of Zelda, and dumped every conceivable gun into it. It is SO FUN! It also has of the most humorous Boss intros of any game. Like Nine Toes...hehehe ah Nine Toes. The way it looks is totally amazing, and I can't wait to finish the second game with Krieg (and Bandit version of Brick) and I highly recommend this game to everyone...that being said, not everyone can tolerate Claptrap, arguably more annoying then that fairy thing in the Zelda games.

The Elder Scrolls III : Morrowind
Now I know what some of you are thinking..."Out of all the Elder Scroll games, he chooses this one?" Yes, Morrowind is better, because it wasn't dumbed down, things were harder in Morrowind, you had to find the separate pieces of armor, spells were more complex and so was enchanting, and of course armor and weapons deteriorated over time making smiting a must. Also all those crazy glitches are STILL THERE, on consoles you can make entire armies of summoned monsters, and wage a brutal war on the town guards. And I'm sticking with this, It was harder, A LOT HARDER. Granted if you had the right gear you could walk up to the games boss and beat him down, But the game itself was brutal, there was no regenerating health, blocking was hard, and of course the blast reputation system with the NPCs. It's because it was harder and more complex then Bethesdas more recent games, is it my second pick.

The Mass Effect series
The Mass Effect games may have been dealt a cruel hand of late, but this game is one of the few that ever made me care about the characters. From the first game to final moments of the third, I've been heavily invested in each of the characters. And when one was lost to the series, I had feels. Certainly story-wise it's one of the best games out there...game play is another story, most of the time it's repetitive, Go Here-Shoot That, but some how it works, with the command system you felt like a real commander, you felt like you were actually fighting it out with/against aliens. And even though the "ending" bombed, I was rather happy with the death of Sheppard (he was becoming a bit to god like for me) and am real excited to see what they come up with next.

Must See Movies 2013: Samantha's Picks

Spring and Summer is the time when the movie theaters start to really heat up with Hollywood heavy weights. You got your block buster big budget films and sleeper hits festive favorites. These are a few of the movies I will happily pay my $10 and hope to be very satisfied and thrilled. The movies based on book always give me cause for concern though. All I can do is hope for the best and pray its not another Eragon movie! I wish I could erase that and others from my brain!!

Iron Man 3 - May 3rd: I know I know! Its a given right? Who doesn't want or love to see Tony Stark/Iron Man/Robert Downey Jr.!! I don't think I need a summery of the plot here but let me just say I am VERY much looking forward to Ben Kinglsy (who is one of my absolute favorite people on the planet) as the villain, Mandarin. I'm FLIPPING OUT!!! MAY 3RD IS ALMOST HERE!!!

The Great Gatsby: Basically because everything  Leonardo DiCaprio is involved in is pretty fantastic! I'm sure this re-telling of the classic novel won't disappoint.

Star Trek 2 Into the Darkness: Never been much of a Star Trek fan, but thanks to J.J. Abrams I am looking forward to the is movie (and Benedict Cumberbatch). I have faith in J.J. Abrams that he will do fantastic things with Star Wars.

The Colony: Post apocalyptic world , yet set in a different type of environment disaster, the second ice-age. Post apocalyptic films are one of guilty pleasures. Hopefully this movie delivers some new twists on an old over done theme

Monster University: The prequel to Monsters Inc. I sure most parents have a soft spot for this movie as I do. Much like the Toy Story movies, I hope to enjoy this film as well!

Much Ado About Nothing: I am a Shakespeare fan and I enjoy watching the modern twists and different Directors styles. And because its Joss Whedon, plus a lot of our beloved actors we have grown to love because of the characters they have played in the Whedonverse (Nathan Fillion!). I think this is going to be a brilliantly entertaining film!

Lone Ranger: Oh Yes! Growing up, I was fed a steady diet of classic shows such as the Lone Ranger. And I pretty much enjoy anything Johnny Depp does. That's not bias at all. I love you Johnny Depp, even in Cry Baby!!!

Gallowwalkers: This movie's initial release was 2010, instead it is due to be released this year! Just in time for Wesley Snipes' release from federal prison. This movie looks fantastically cheesy!! Zombies in the Old West! I have missed Wesley Snipes and his epic voice very much. Looking forward to new projects from Mr. Snipes.

Pacific Rim: I LOVE GIANT ROBOTS!!! (Its the ONLY reason why I don't totally detest Micheal Bay) And over the top action movies. Lets just hope Pacific Rim is highly entertaining and the best parts are not just what we see in the trailer. Starring Charlie Hunnam (one of my favs from Sons of Anarchy) Idris Elba and Ron Perlman, directed by Guillermo del Toro. How can this movie not be incredible!!!

Rounding out my MUST SEE Movies: The Wolverine, again like Iron Man 3, its a no-brainier!! Red 2 and The Mortal Instruments. The books are very well written with a vast, epic mythology. Hopefully the movie delivers too!

Happy Movie viewing Geekdom. Let me know what films you are looking forward too!
