Super Sunday Shirt Selection 06/30/13 Canada Day Edition

We here at Geek Circus thought it appropriate to celebrate our well loved Canadian Superheroes for Canada Day! The world might not be aware that 2 of the most popular Comic book Heroes are Canadian Nationals. And what is a Canada Day celebration without Captain Canuck, and there for the reboot in the form of a web series. I had the chance to meet 2 of the voice actors at this past Toronto Comic Con, blog here. And for more info and updates about Captain Canuck web series visit here.

Indie Game The Movie. Review

Documentary film by Canadian filmmakers James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot. Featuring the developers of Super Meat Boy, Fez, and Braid. A very insightful look at Indie game makers and the challenges they have faced creating their games. In realty these indie games are being created by one or two guys and they are not connected with the big gaming companies. They want to make/create games they want to play, in some cases influenced by their childhood loves.

I loved the guys talking about growing up what interested and inspired them as children to become creative adults. You gain a new respect and admiration for what these guys go through, personally, emotionally, professionally and financially. At times it is gut-wrenching to watch, but this movie will give people the understanding of the long process it takes from conception of the game to completion to HOPEFULLY getting a deal with one of the major game companies. Even just getting the game out there and played (word of mouth via Twitter) can make all the difference in the success of any independent video games.

This is a must watch for all Gamers! Insightful and Brilliant 10 outta 10!

Mircosoft NEWS!!!

Imagine our surprise when I saw this post on Tumblr from nerdology! Apparently the D-Bags at Microsoft have seen the light!! Check out the link below courtesy of the website GIANT BOMB. Thanks for the post nerdology :)

Microsoft to Pull Complete Reversal

Maybe all the kudos Sony has been given for the much better and cheaper PS4, the petitions and all the back lash has actually made them re-think their "future vision".

Petition Against Microsoft

http://forcechange.com/66782/stop-microsofts-marginalization-of-women-in-video-games/

Microsoft doesn't seem to have no bounds in disappointing the people who have spent their money and are devoted to the xbox product. They say xbox one in the future and they at Microsoft can see the true vision of where multimedia is headed.

So is misogyny, objectify women and sexism the way of the future too Microsoft? If so, that's called living in the past. Not surprising. As a female and casual gamer I feel Microsoft has dropped the ball again and in my opinion, for the last time. Any company that publicly slags their cash cow 360, telling people you want a better product you need to pay up isn't where I will be spending my hard earned minimum wage salary!

Please take a moment to sign and share the petition above.

Stay Shiny

Artist Feature: Ginny Milling

I love talented creative people. So every chance I get I will share on the blog someone that I think is truly amazing! Now some might say I am a little bias about this amazing talented artist, because she is a Friend of mine. But after you see the incredible works of art she creates I think you will are agree with me.

Ginny Milling creates comic book art, pin up girls and her own artist takes on geek culture loves. She is even a cake decorator too! But Ginny's new endeavour was something of challenge and is turning out to be one of the most artistic things she has ever created!

Shoe painting may look easy to the average person, but it takes patience, talent and time. Ginny has mastered all three and the Iron Man shoes are proof of that! Check out these beautiful works of wearable art.

Superman Reboot.....AGAIN

Spring is finally here which means the Hollywood blockbuster movie season is now in full swing. There is a lot of films I am looking forward too, except one. Man of Steel another reboot of Superman's origins story. I know a lot of people are awing over the trailer. Some find it poetic and extremely moving, full of intense emotion. I just don't feel it....Man of Steel Trailer
Superman 2013

Let me explain, first of all Superman has had a long history of TV series starting with Adventures Of Superman (1952-1958). But I come from the Christopher Reeves as Superman generation, back in 1978 when Superman movie debut.Yes I just dated myself. I loved and enjoyed all the movies even Superman 3, which Rotten Tomatoes gave a one star rating with the quote "When not overusing sightgags, slapstick, and Richard Pryor, Superman III resorts to plot points rehashed from the previous Superman flicks." It really was the worst movie out of the four.
Christopher Reeves

Man of Steel is Superman's origin story. Didn't we see that for 10 season on TV in Smallville? For that matter, in every Superman incarnation? Maybe its just me, but it seems like Superman's origin story has been told  and retold so many times that I have no interest in the reboot. In 2006 Superman Returns with Brandon Routh came out and I was looking forward to seeing Bryan Singers version. Brandon had a very Christopher Reeves feel to Superman and I found the movie very nostalgic but slow moving and quiet. It came, got bad reviews and went away. I was kind of hoping DC was done with trying to bring Superman to the big screen. We also had the TV series Lois and Clark (1993-1997) for four season, countless cartoons starting in 1941 and consistently resurrected through the ages to now. As I have mentioned, the TV series Smallville in 2001, which I did watch for almost four seasons was entertaining. Up to Smallville we haven't explored Clark Kent as a regular person before he was Superman. But even after almost 4 seasons I moved on. That's when I realized I'm not a huge fan of Sups and I don't particularly like him.
Brandon Routh

He is pretty much one dimensional, not much of personalty, an EGO the size of the universe, and a narcissist to boot!  He is a complete ass to Batman (who has much more depth of character, better stories and much better movies. I digress) anyone can control Superman with little coloured rocks and his "disguise" is the WORST EVER! Please is everyone around Superman that oblivious, that just putting on a pair of glasses alters his appearance that much?? Really? But more than any of that. Its always the same story of Superman they tell. This is just the big screen version of Smallville without Tom Welling. And why could they not keep Tom Welling as Superman? oh wait, I know because Its the SAME story about Superman! But new actors make it all new and shiny. I thought at some point I would want to see Man of Steel. But after writing this, I just gave myself more reasons not too.

DC has a HUGE universe of Characters. Maybe its time they venture away from the big guys like Batman and Sups and try some other characters the general masses might not be familiar with. Tell NEW stories and maybe DC will give me something to be excited about. That said I don't want to see Man of Steel fail. Maybe if DC get the kudos they crave so much with this reboot, they will move on to other DC characters.

Good luck Man of Steel. I hope this time around all you Superman fans get a movie worthy of your devotion.

Super Sunday Shirt Selections 09/06/2013

Today's Super Sunday Shirt Selection, is brought to you by the letter X...for Xenomorph! More commonly know as Aliens. You know all black, bean shaped head, two mouths, commonly bursts from people chests.

And with a repertoire like that, how can they not have great shirts. It's after wading through the generic space alien shirts, I found 3 ALIEN shirts for any fan of the series to enjoy.

ALL CAN BE FOUND ON REDBUBBLE!

Ah, the Yutani Corporation, famous for colonisation, the building of spaceships, and breaking the law by preforming horrible scientific experiments under the guise of "Helping Mankind". IT'S LIKE APERTURE SCIENCE LABS, Except Evil. AND YOU TOO CAN PRETEND TO BE A PART OF IT.

EVERYONE LOVES PIXELS!!!! And who doesn't like eggs! They bring life, make food, and are great social experiments. Help show your love for one of the most bad-ass eggs in cinema. And no, Yoshi eggs don't count.

I saved my favorite for last. Ever wake up from an awesome nights sleep, with no idea what happened...That's totally unrelated to this, but it helps, You go to the doctor and find out, SURPRISE you're pregnant...Only it's not what you think....but man, that doctor is thorough enough to check your chest cavity. Also the only colour to get this in, is black for your information.
